Frequently Asked Questions:

What do I bring?
Clothes, camera, and spending money is about it. You can also use this as a guide: equipment list.

What is a typical daily Schedule?
Participants will need to be ready for breakfast each morning at 8:00am. Then the adventure begins! Each group will be given their packet at a morning meeting that will include their daily budget and clues. From there, each group will decide where they go, what they eat, and how they spend their budget. We will all meet back together by 5:30 each evening for our night program.

What is included in the trip?
Exciting "hands-on history" experiences... this adventure is like no other! All hotel, transportation, food, tips, etc... are included however, souvenirs and other incidentals are up to each individual. It is suggested that each participant have at least $100 spending money.

Can I call home?
Not typically. Letters can be written and packages can be sent and received. No cell phones are allowed. Parents and other family members and friends can follow your Journey every step of the way on the National Treasure blog.

How will we get to camp?
We will meet in Provo on the first day. Journey staff will transport participants to our Utah destination for that day and evening and then to the airport for our flight out the next morning. Parents will pick up their youth from the airport on the last scheduled day of the session.

Do I need medical insurance coverage?
Medical insurance is required for each participating youth. If you do not have medical insurance notify the Journey Foundation office so an agreement can be arranged.

What is so cool about Journey programs?
All counselors are university students who have a history of high academic performance and a wide range of experience and skills serving youth. Activities are designed to challenge and bring together youth and their counselors.

What happens if you break the honor code?
We want everyone to succeed and have a great experience. Those who are unable to live in harmony with the honor code and follow the direction of staff will be sent home. A plane ticket home costs $500-$1000 from our trip locations.

What do we eat?
That will be decided by each team, but will be primarily fast food. Dinner will be with the full group together each evening in a more "well-balanced diet restaurant" type setting. Snacks will be on your own.

What about safety?
Journey staff is certified in first aid and CPR. Medically trained staff is on site at all times and each activity is carefully planned, equipped, and supervised with safety first. There will be plenty of medical services in all places we will be traveling.

Where do we sleep?
You will primarily sleep in hotels or college dorms. One or two nights may be spent in a tent.

What do we do on Sundays?
We will probably attend an LDS church service on Sunday. However, it is possible that your session will attend a worship service at the National Cathedral.

Counselor to participant ratio?
We believe the best experience for everyone is had in small groups. So we’re proud to offer a 1:4 adult to youth ratio in all Journey programs. While group sizes may be larger at times (because of the activities involved) there is always plenty of adult support.

What about Medications?
Our in-camp medical staff gather meds upon arrival and distribute them according to the required medication schedule prescribed by your doctor.

What is the boy/girl ratio?
Our goal is to have half boys/half girls. However, enrollments vary and are on a first come, first serve basis. It is possible that the ratio will be different but that is our goal and we have been successful at meeting that in past.
